Our Mission

At Justice For Tipsy, we are committed to seeking justice for Tipsy, a beloved dog who tragically lost her life after being taken to a shelter. Our mission is to raise awareness about the troubling incidents surrounding her case and advocate for a thorough investigation into the practices of animal shelters. We believe every animal deserves a voice and we work passionately to ensure their rights are protected and honored.

Tipsy's Story

On March 13th, Tipsy went missing. Within about an hour, her family filed a lost pet report online and began actively searching. The shelter’s website states that animals taken in are automatically entered into the Petco LoveLost system and are typically held for 72 hours to give owners time to locate them.

During that same roughly three-hour period, Tipsy was picked up and brought to the shelter.

Despite the report already being filed and the stated 72-hour hold policy, Tipsy was euthanized within approximately three hours of going missing. Her family was not aware she had been taken to the shelter at the time and continued searching, believing there was still time to find her.

When the family was first informed, the shelter stated that Tipsy had been euthanized due to her age. That explanation later changed multiple times, with different reasons given in subsequent conversations. This created confusion about the actual basis for the decision.

The shelter also told the family that this is generally how they operate, that if a dog is brought in and is considered old or injured, euthanasia is likely.

The documentation provided identified Tipsy as:

However, there has been no clear or consistent timeline provided showing what happened from intake to euthanasia. It is also unclear whether Tipsy was entered into the Petco LoveLost system, and if so, when that occurred.

Given these issues, the family is requesting:

  • Confirmation of whether and when Tipsy was entered into the Petco LoveLost system

  • A complete and accurate timeline of events, including intake time, any identification or scanning procedures, evaluation notes, and the exact time of euthanasia

  • A clear explanation of the reason for euthanasia, given the conflicting statements already provided

  • Clarification on the shelter’s stated policies versus actual practices, specifically whether euthanizing animals within hours of intake—particularly those that are older or injured—is standard procedure

  • An explanation for why the published 72-hour hold policy does not appear to have been followed in this case

The goal is to understand exactly what happened, whether proper protocols were followed, and whether this reflects a broader pattern in how the shelter operates.
